Lagos Safety Commission, MAN signs MoU on safety standards

Lagos State Safety Commission on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Lagos State.

In his address at the important and memorable event, the Director General of Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, intimated that the signing of the MoU had been long overdue, but expressed his pleasure that the signing indeed came up.

He maintained that as part of the current administration's commitment to achieve a safer and orderly Lagos, Lagos State Safety Commission had been engaging various relevant stakeholders to develop strategic partnership that would make the state record zero or no accident either at home or working environment, and all social and economic activities in the state.

"In the recent times, Safety Commission had been at the forefront in seeing that lives and properties of all the residents are protected. As the Governor, being the Number one citizen of the state owes the entire residents duty of going and coming back from work without any accident, however minute. Whether you are in the manufacturing sector, event sector, oil and gas sector, the the state guarantees the safety of lives and properties of all Lagosians", Mojola said.

He maintained, he was indeed happy to witness the signing of the MoU.

"As such, we are indeed happy to witness this day, which is as a result of the constructive engagement with Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and our agency. I hereby solicit their support for the minimum safety of all their member organizations.

According to him, we hope this is the beginning of another journey to ensure zero accident across the state. Safety reports of member companies would only be recognised if submissions are made by registered consultants", Mojola said.

Responding, the Chairman, Health Safety and Environmental Committee, MAN, Ikeja Branch, Mr Shola Ologun,
commended the final signing of the MoU and indeed commended tbe dedication and unwavering commitment of Lagos State Safety Commission.

He said the association would continue to negotiate and ensure that the concerns of manufacturers were addressed and were adequately represented at further negotiations with the agency, just as he requested periodical meetings between MAN and Lagos Safely Commission for review and additional relevant requests by stakeholders.

The event also witnessed the presentation of a handbook on public safety for all households "Essentials of Safety and Health", which was presented by the DG, Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola.
