New Anglican Road: Contractor Reassures Ugwuanyi of Quality, Timely Completion

A construction firm, Ferotex Nigeria Limited, which is handing the New Anglican Road in Enugu State has reassured Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and residents of the state of quality and timely completion of the project, Igbere TV reports.

In a statement made available to Igbere TV on Thursday, the firm said it has become imperative to correct some impressions concerning the ongoing project because of misinformation being disseminated by the enemies of the state.

The construction firm further revealed that the engineering adjustment that led to reasonable road elevation was to enable free flow of water and address the flood challenges being experienced on the road, which past governments abandoned and neglected for decades.

The statement reads,

"The attention of Ferotex Nigeria Limited has been drawn to series of misinformation with respect to our work with Enugu state Government at New Anglican Road, Nsukka.

"In keeping the records straight and putting out the truth, the purveyors of this misinformation should first thank, without reservation, the Government of Enugu State for having the courage to attempt to fix the New Anglican road, abandoned and impassable for over a decade.

"The truth is that the topography of the New Anglican Road is flat. This makes water drain impossible without engineering adjustment to reasonable road elevation enabling free flow of water.

"If this elevation is not done as currently ongoing , the road will remain water logged and defeat the purpose for which Enugu State Government is determined to achieve .

"To do the elevation is the best professional solution and this we MUST employ in the interest of the general good.

"We understand the concern of persons who live along the road that the elevaton of the hight of the road may make discharge of rain water from their homes more difficult.

"However, when we are faced with a situation where the public good outweighs few individual good, public good must prevail, especially where there is remedy for the inconvenience to the private few.

"The solution for those whose buildings are affected is to do embankment that channels water back to the drain through a culvert we are constructing

"We shall also support them in professionally giving direction to enable water redirection from their homes into the culvert

"We want to categorically state that the BEME for the road is as designed and has not been reduced or tampered with in any form by our company.

"We challenge anyone with a contrary finding to a public on-site verification in the presence of the media and Enugu State ministry of works.

"Finally, we thank Enugu State Government for the massive infrastructure regeneration it has embarked on in the whole of Enugu State, and, more particularly in Nsukka where we are deeply engaged.

"The Nsukka zone, (Enugu North) is witnessing, in her history, the first comprehensive and sustainable road, and other infrastructure revolution. Nsukka people with their level of education must resist the effort of people who are determined to distract the State government from her focus in Nsukka by using the new social media in our palms to cause disaffection and distraction.

"Our offices are open and available for clarification by any citizen who wishes to make inquiry, but, we caution that people with motives other than the good of Nsukka people should not drag the government of Enugu state and our company to their destructive, jealous and hate laced vituperations.

"We thank all citizens who have shown support to the government of Enugu State that has continued to push forward the good works in the face of dwindling national income."
